Receive and transmit synthesizer control and lock scanning; demodulator and system clock control based on temperature input; audio processor control based on user input; receive amplification control based on signal strength indication.  Keypad scanning and various tone and LED flashing pattern generation for the user interface.  Infrared communication channel support.  Separate segment flash memory setup data write/erase support.

Scanning, filtering and processing of transmit and receive power, temperature and supply voltage.  Alarm input monitoring and data output to an IIC EEPROM. Reading setup and calibration data from the EEPROM.  Support of calibration and normal modes of operation.

Task:
System specification, firmware design & development, implementation of the Basta Engineering Multi-Drop (BEMD) protocol for external and internal communication channels

System of 3 Motorola 68336 controllers, Intermetrics C compiler & assembler, Intermetrics Single Step simulator, EST emulator

Radio-Theodolite unit for setting, tracking and receiving data from Vaisala’s and competitor’s weather radio-sondes

Supported Functionality – Elevation Unit:
Calculation of elevation angle error and antenna elevation motion control utilizing the Table Stepper Motor (TSM) function of the Motorola Time Processor Unit (TPU).  BEMD slave module protocol support.

Supported Functionality – Azimuth Unit:
Calculation of azimuth angle error and antenna azimuth motion control utilizing the TSM function of the Motorola TPU.  Internal network master and interface towards external control utilizing master and slave BEMD modules.

Supported Functionality – Receiver Unit:
Receiver’s automatic gain control, frequency error calculation and synthesizer control.  Integrator control and processing of left/right and up/down signal strengths.  Decoding and processing of sonde’s data and setup parameters.  BEMD slave module protocol support.
